Manufacturers Description:

The Southerly 42RST is designed by Rob Humphreys office. She can be easily handled by two people and boasts an impressive sail plan with a  tall fractional rig and self tacking jib giving excellent cruising performance. The cockpit has twin helm positions and generous locker space. Comfortable seating and a large central table give excellent crew bracing when sailing and a superb after sailing/outside dining area.

Below decks is a modern, sea going interior with three sleeping cabins. The raised saloon
giving panoramic views and the large galley is well placed for the ease of working at sea. The
owner’s cabin  is one of the most spacious and well designed cabins to be found in a
yacht under 45′. With the unique Swing keel for deep draft performance and shallow draft
freedom, this yacht is equally suited to cruising in shallow waters or crossing oceans.

Hull Construction

Heavy duty GRP moulding, hand laid up incorporating multi-axial and unidirectional reinforcement. The keel box is an integral part of the hull lay-up and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides. All main bulkheads are bonded into the hull at main lay-up stage along with the stiffening grillage of transverse frames and longitudinal stringers. The engine bearers are also an integral part of the hull structure.

Topside gelcoat: Oxford Blue, full service and gel repairs to hull carried out 2026 Style lines: Off White and Dark Red Boot top lines: Off White and Dark Red Underwater gelcoat: Clear Antifouling: Aquarius Marine Coppercoat system to underwater area, renewed in 2022,

Deck construction:

Hand laid up GRP. Sandwich construction. Heavily stressed areas are additionally reinforced with unidirectional glass reinforcement. The deck is bonded to the hull through the entire length and to all main bulkheads, resulting in a strong and integrated unit. Teak capping rail to hull and deck joint upstand. Moulded non-slip finish to ring deck. Access to chain locker from foredeck.

Swing Keel:

The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and as a transverse

stiffening for the keel unit. It is fitted into a recess in the hull in the area of the keel box with

stainless steel bolts. The aerofoil Swing Keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless steel

pivot at the leading edge. The Swing Keel is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram powered

by an electrically driven pump with a hand operated back-up. All hydraulics are easily

accessible for maintenance. The hydraulic ram and Dyneema keel lift pennant replaced
