The Southerly Owners’ Association was formed in 1982 with the aim of promoting cruises, rallies and social events, and to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and information on all aspects of owning, sailing and maintaining Southerly yachts.

It is a thriving and very well supported body, which has succeeded in building many friendships, helping most members to increase the enjoyment and satisfaction of owning a Southerly. The Association became affiliated to the RYA in January 2002.

The Association is managed by a committee of about eight and has always been independent of the boat builders.

A magazine is provided twice a year and includes details of forthcoming events, booking forms, technical information and topical articles. In a typical year, events would include at least six rallies, the Laying Up Supper, and the Annual General Meeting with an associated social event.

The current subscription is £20 per year. The preferred method of payment is by standing order which makes an immediate payment on joining, followed by an annual payment to start the following 1st April. The mandate at the bottom of the application form should be filled in and the whole form returned to the Membership Secretary who will forward it to your bank.

We also offer the option of payment by Paypal for those members located outside of the UK.

We have over 475 boats/members (at September 2020) in the Association and, as our bank balance is healthy, we do not envisage the subscriptions being increased for some years.

An SOA members’ burgee is included in the first subscription, as is a copy of the latest magazine (if still available). Replacement burgees (£10), ties and scarves (£10 each) are available.

We hope you would like to join the SOA and look forward to hearing from you. If you would like further information please contact the Membership Secretary
